And That's Okay...

Uncategorized Jun 22, 2020

I want to share one of my favorite tools with you.  I call it the "....and that's okay!" tool.

Just add these three words "....and that's okay!" to the end of sentences or thoughts you perceive as negative.

We have no idea what school is going to look like in the fall...and that's okay.

My students aren't following through with their work...and that's okay.

My students' parents aren't helping their kids enough...and that's okay.

My own kid is struggling with online school...and that's okay.

This technology is hard for me...and that's okay.

My spouse is drinking every night...and that's okay.

My parents aren't being careful enough...and that's okay.

My principal just doesn't get it...and that's okay.

My son is anxious...and that's okay.

It doesn't mean that we don't care, don't problem solve, or aren't proactive to improve a situation. It just means that we take the extra drama of "it's all gone wrong" out of it.

If I can believe that nothing has gone wrong, then all the circumstances in my life get neutralized and become less negative.

If I can believe that nothing has gone wrong, then I can see that these things are meant to happen, even if I can't see the why right now.

If I can believe that nothing has gone wrong, then it really is okay.

Have an amazing week!
